The Red Storm edged Falmouth in a meet that went down to the last event, while the Red Riots earned their third straight championship.

South Portland, led by wins from Devin Berry (110-meter hurdles), Anthony Nielsen (800) and Bossay Ditanduka (long jump), totaled 98 points to earn a third straight title, ahead of Portland (69.75) and Lewiston (60).

“It’s just really incredible about how much they improved,” said Red Riots coach Dave Kahill, whose team only returned 15.33 individual points from last year. “They came together to reach their potential. You always want to reach your potential, whether it’s for a championship or not.”

En route to victory in the boys meet, South Portland got runner-up finishes from Ambrosio Mputu (100), Michael Lawlor (800), Ditanduka (200) and the 400 relay team, and third-place results from Christiano Jundo (300 hurdles) and Jared LaRose (high jump).

“A lot of people will say ‘Oh, South Portland’s just going to win it,’ but we like to tell ourselves you never know,” said Berry. “We have a lot of depth, and that’s great for us. It gives us a lot of competition in practice, it gives us a teamwork aspect.”
