It’s National Public Schools Week, which began on February 26 and runs through March 1, to celebrate the achievement of public schools and honor the significant contributions and accomplishments of educators, school leaders and school board members.
The goal of Public Schools Week is to put the spotlight on public education and recognize the critical role our schools have in preparing our children for successful futures.

Skillin 4th graders designed and created robotic snowplows just in time for our first major snowstorm! These Sphero Bolt robotics kits are part of the Maine Department of Education - Maine Teaches Computer Science Initiative. All students receive computer science instruction and hands-on learning experiences through the library program.

As the tragic shootings in Lewiston is ongoing situation, we encourage all families to follow the advice of law enforcement to stay safe at home until the perpetrator is apprehended.
We will closely monitor developments in the situation and will respond accordingly. We are in touch with the South Portland Police Department and will make a decision about the school day tomorrow, October 26th, in light of those developments.
South Portland High School (and ONLY SPHS) will have an early release today, Wednesday October 25th, because of significant plumbing issues.
