From November 18–22, students, staff, and community members are invited to donate nonperishable food items to South Portland Middle School's Annual Food Drive. Planting Hope Gardens to spread hope 🌷💛 South Portland High School students started a club called Advocates for Mental Health to encourage more conversations about mental health and normalize help seeking behaviors. Their first project is participating in the Yellow Tulip Project. By planting tulip bulbs in the courtyard at the high school, South Portland Middle School, and the South Portland Police Department, they are creating Hope Gardens that will bloom in the spring.

A spooky story contest at the South Portland Public Library inspired 3rd and 4th grade writers at Small Elementary! Students who wrote and submitted a story were invited to an author's celebration in the school library, where they shared their stories and were recognized for their spooky writings.

There are many ways that students are involved with their community at South Portland High School. Student Voice is a group dedicated to amplifying the voices of SPHS students, bridging the gap between members of our community, advocating for important changes, and planning inclusive events that promote school spirit.

South Portland Middle School recently held its first Family Movie Night, which included a delicious dinner served by teachers and school admin, open gym, and a film festival hosted by Ms. Fletcher! 🎥 A special thank you to Wayside Food Programs for providing the meal and The Locker Project for giving out fresh produce that evening.

Happy Fall! 🍂🎃 In art class, 7th grade students staged pumpkins and candy corn, photographed their still life, sketched their drawings using the elements of art (form, space, and value), and colored them using oil pastels.








The Outdoor Club is ready to ride! 🚲 Led by advisors Mr. Lunt and Mr. Wetzel, this afterschool club at SPMS provides bikes and helmets to students to go on bike rides on the school campus and on trails around South Portland. In the winter, they will gear up to go cross-country skiing!

Award-winning journalist and author Elisa Boxer visited Kaler Elementary! 📚 Elisa answered student questions about her writing process and talked to them about the stories behind her books, including “One Turtle's Last Straw,” the winner of last year's Chickadee Award.
