Our Mission: "Enriching Lives through Quality Learning for All"

Welcome to the South Portland Schools! We hope that you find our website provides you with all the information you need to know about our five elementary schools, middle school, high school, and all things South Portland Schools. You can explore calendar events, curriculum information, bus routes, cafeteria menus, employment postings, School Board materials, and most importantly, news about our students and staff. We are proud of the work we do every day as we strive to live up to our mission, "Enriching Lives Through Quality Learning For All.”

We are proud that our 2,800+ students from Pre-Kindergarten to adult represent all that is wonderful about our community. We have students who have grown up around the corner from their schools and whose parents, and even grandparents, are proud South Portland graduates. We have students speaking thirty-nine different languages at home, whose families have come from across the globe and have settled in our great city. Together we foster a culture of respect, understanding, and celebration of what makes us unique and what binds us together.

While proud of our accomplishments and of our graduates each year attending top universities across the country, we are always aiming to improve student achievement and better prepare all of our students for college, career and citizenship.

Our Mission, Vision, & Beliefs guides our work as we partner with community and families on behalf of our collective tomorrow, our students. Additionally, the following statement frames our position on how we seek to ensure a diverse, inclusive, and equitable school environment that empowers belonging:

The South Portland School Department affirms our unwavering commitment to the following:

  • Our diversity enhances the education of all students.

  • Our dedication to equity ensures that all students can access the support and resources they need.

  • Our schools are inclusive and welcoming where all can learn and grow.

We will continue to take action to

  • Interrupt and eliminate injustices that inhibit our students’ success.

  • Foster empathy and belonging for all.
