staff and students pose with book donors

During the first week of back-to-school in South Portland, the district accepted over 200 individual books, a $3,000 investment in students’ learning from philanthropic organization 16 Lyrics. Special thanks to 16 Lyrics board members Jeremy Mirick and Matty Kiernan (along with Win and Grady), who personally delivered this shipment to be distributed to all seven schools in the district, benefiting over 3,000 students.

South Portland Schools has close to 700 multilingual learners, a unique student profile in Southern Maine. Mohammed Albehadli, our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator, continues to work with our librarians and organizations like 16 Lyrics to help diversify our library book collections because at SPSD, #representationmatters.
